Softball Earns Two Road Wins Thursday Afternoon

Enterprise, AL. – The MMI softball team won the first two games of their four-game series at Enterprise State Community College.  They will welcome the Boll Weevils to Rapier Field Saturday afternoon to finish the series.

Game 1: MMI 8 ESCC 6

Carlie Blanton, Abigail Phillips, and Katie Hopson each doubled in game one Thursday afternoon, helping starting pitcher Emily Rice earn the win.

Marion took a 4-0 lead after the top of the third inning before ESCC added three runs to cut into the lead.  Both teams added two runs in the sixth inning to make the score 6-5 going into the final inning.  The Lady Tigers scored twice in their at-bat and held the Boll Weevils to just one run.

Nichole Dockery (1-for-5, R, 2RBI), Destiny Brashears (1-for-4), and Kyren Damon (1-for-3, R, BB) all recorded a hit in the victory.

Game 2: MMI 2 ESCC 1

Nichole Dockery hit a solo homerun in the top of the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and freshman Emma Parmley kept ESCC from scoring in their final at-bat to claim game two victory, and a doubleheader sweep.  Parmley threw a complete game, giving up four hits and a run with two walks and three strikeouts.

Carlie Blanton doubled for one of her two hits and Abigail Phillips doubled twice to lead Marion at the plate.
