Softball Starts ACCC Play 3-1

After the MMI softball team won the first two games of the four-game series against Wallace CC-Dothan at home, they split the final doubleheader at Dothan last Saturday afternoon. They will face the Pirates of Chattahoochee Valley CC this week with the first two games at home on Wednesday, March 4: first pitch at 12:00 p.m.

Game 3 MMI 5 WCCD 7

MMI got on the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning with a homerun to left field by Abigail Phillips. They extended their early lead with two home runs in the top of the third inning by Nichole Dockery and Destiny Brashears.

Wallace-Dothan scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut the lead to one run, 4-3.

Brashears homered again in the top of the sixth inning, but the Lady Govs plated four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the 7-5 lead.

Carlie Blanton led MMI with three hits; she scored a run. Abigail Phillips and Destiny Brashears each went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Nichole Dockery finished 1-for-3. Emily Rice took the loss from the circle with Emma Parmley working 0.2 innings in relief.

Game 4 MMI  8 WCCD 6

Marion took an early 2-1 lead after the first inning. They added another run in the fourth inning, two in the fifth inning and three in the final inning, taking an 8-3 lead into Wallace-Dothan's final at-bat. Emily Rice returned to the circle in the final inning to earn a save. Emma Parmley and Haylie Lee both saw action for the Tigers.

Carlie Blanton remained hot at the plate with three hits, scoring a run with an RBI. Katie Hopson, Nichole Dockery, and Veronica Ward each had two hits; Ward finished with two walks and two RBI and a run scored. Dockery doubled, scored twice, and recorded an RBI.

Also getting hits for MMI was Alexandra Gray (1-fo-4, 2R), Destiny Brashears (1-for-4, RBI), Abigail Phillips (1-for-3, RBI), and Haylie Lee (1-for-3, R, 2BB).
