Softball Picks Up Two More Wins at Home
Marion, AL. – The MMI Lady Tigers picked up two more wins at home yesterday, defeating East Central Community College. They will be back in action on Monday at Holmes Community College before starting ACCC play next Thursday, February 26th.
Game 1 MMI 2 ECCC 1
East Central CC scored first in game one of the doubleheader, plating one run in the third inning. Marion took the lead, 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Nichole Dockery reached on an infield error. Alexandra Gray bunted for a hit. With two outs Destiny Brashears doubled to right centerfield scoring Dockery and Gray.
Emily Rice earned her seventh win of the season. In 6.1 innings, she gave up four hits, one run (none earned) with no walks or strikeouts.
Game 2 MMI 8 ECCC 7
The Tigers scored in their first at-bat to take a 1-0 lead. Nichole Dockery doubled to centerfield and a fielder's choice by Alexandra Gray moved Dockery to third. Katie Hopson doubled to left centerfield, scoring Dockery.
After ECCC added two runs in the second inning, Marion rallied with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Carlie Blanton doubled and Haylie Lee sacrificed her to third. Veronica Ward was hit by a pitch. Dockery hit a sac fly to right field, scoring Blanton. Gray singled and Hopson doubled, scoring two more runs. Abigail Phillips singled to score Hopson.
East Central scored two runs in the third inning but Marion added two runs in their turn at the plate. Blanton earned a one out walk. Lee tripled, scoring Blanton. Ward laid down a bunt, scoring Lee.
The visitors from Decatur, Mississippi added a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at seven runs apiece. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Tigers would take the lead back. Phillips doubled to left field and Destiny Brashears walked. With a new pitcher in the circle for ECCC and two outs, Blanton singled through the right side of the infield to score Phillips.
Sophomore Sydney Elam, who took the circle in the middle of the fifth inning, recorded three quick outs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the win. Elam gave up two hits, one run (none earned) and a walk with one strikeout. Also seeing action for Marion was Emma Parmley and Addison Mitchell.
