Softball Sweeps EMCC at Home
Marion, AL. – The Lady Tigers won two games against the Lions of East Mississippi CC Thursday afternoon to take the doubleheader sweep. They will be back in action on Saturday at the Turf Wars Invitational in Gardendale, Alabama.
Game 1 MMI 6 EMCC 1
Marion scored first in the bottom of the third inning when Katie Hopson doubled down the left centerfield. Nichole Dockery earned a one-out walk and Carlie Blanton reached base on an outfield error. Hopson's double plated both runners.
The Tigers added another run in the fifth inning. Blanton walked and Hopson hit her second double to put runners on second and third. Abigail Phillips' hit to second base allowed Blanton to score.
EMCC scored their only run in the top half of the sixth inning, but MMI answered with three runs in their turn at the plate to extend the lead. Kyren Damon and Nichole Dockery each reached on an infield error and a single off the bat of Hopson scored two runs. Addison Mitchell was inserted into the lineup as a pinch hitter and reached on an error, scoring Hopson.
Emily Rice earned the win from the circle. She allowed five hits and one run over seven innings.
Katie Hopson finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI, and a run scored. Nichole Dockery (1-for-3, BB, 2R, SB), Abigail Phillips (1-for-4, RBI), Emily Rice (1-for-3), and Addison Mitchell (1-for-1, RBI) recorded hits for MMI in the win.
Game 2 MMI 9 EMCC 1 (5 Innings)
Emma Parmley earned the win for Marion in game two, giving up four hits and one run in five innings while striking out four batters.
Marion took advantage of some early walks by EMCC pitchers and scored four runs in the first inning and three in the second to take an early 7-0 lead. EMCC plated a run in the third inning, but the Tigers added two in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game early.
Katie Hopson stayed hot at the plate, hitting in the final run of the game. She went 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored two runs. Carlie Blanton had two hits in three at-bats with an RBI and two runs scored. Nichole Dockery (1-for-3, 2R), Alexandra Gray (1-for-2, RBI, BB), and Kyren Damon (1-for-2, R, RBI, BB, SB) also had hits for MMI.
