Tigers Defeat NWS at Home in Non-Conference Game

Marion, AL. – The MMI Tigers welcomed the Patriots of Northwest Shoals CC to campus in a non-conference nine inning game Tuesday afternoon, claiming victory 8-6 in a back-and-forth contest.

Marion got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning after Oliver Morris homered to left field. They added two more runs off an NWS error and a sac fly from Parker Johnson. The Tigers added another run to go up 4-0 in the second inning when Christian Files singled to centerfield.

The Patriots scored a run in the top of the fifth inning and then took the lead, 5-4, in the sixth inning. They scored one more run in seventh inning.

Marion scored three runs in the seventh inning to take the lead back. Parker Johnson walked to bring in a run and Sutton Hyde singled, plating two runs. Coffman, Marion's starting shortstop, scored the Tiger's final run to take an 8-6 lead into the ninth inning.

Alex Holland started on the mound for MMI, giving up two hits, one run, and eight walks with five strikeouts in five innings. Robert Hollon worked a third of inning in relief before Seth Hammock took over for the Tigers, earning the win. Hammock did not allow a hit with one walk, one run (none earned) and two strikeouts.

Christian Files led Marion with two hits in four plate appearances. He walked once, scored a run, and recorded two RBI. Sutton Hyde (1-for-4, 2RBI, BB), Oliver Morris (1-for-4, RBI, 2R, HR), Riley Friend (1-for-3, 2BB, 3R, 2B, SB), and Leyton Coffman (1-for-4, R) had hits for the Tigers in the win.
