Tigers Win First Two Games against Wallace CC-Selma

Selma, AL. – The MMI baseball team won the first two games of the four-game series against Wallace Community College-Selma. They return home on Friday, March 6, to complete the series. First pitch has been moved to 11:00 a.m. due to the chance of rain.

Game 1 MMI 6 WCCS 3

Nate Valles struck out fifteen batters as the starting pitcher for the Tigers, to earn the game one victory. He gave up eight hits and three runs while walking two. Cooper Hardin earned a save for Marion.

Wallace-Selma got on the scoreboard first in the third inning and kept the lead until Marion answered with a run in the top of the fifth inning. Sean Nichols hit a ball that bounced off the centerfielder's glove over the fence.

Marion took the lead, 3-1, in the top of the seventh inning but the Patriots answered in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game and send it into extra innings.

MMI took a three-run lead in the top of the ninth inning after Oliver Morris laid down a sacrifice bunt, Christian Files singled and Parker Johnson singled down the right field line, each scoring a run.

Morris led Marion at the plate finishing 1-for-3 with two RBI.  Sean Nichols, Riley Friend, and Parker Johnson each had two hits in the win.

Game 2 MMI 9 WCCS 0

Marion scored first in the top of the first inning after Riley Friend was hit by a pitch, driving in a run and Oliver Morris singled, scoring three runs.

A hit by a pitch and single off the bat of Haldyn Williams extended MMI's lead in the third inning; Tigers up 7-0.

Sutton Hyde earned the win for Marion, giving up two hits over six innings, striking out nine and walking two. Alex Holland worked a scoreless inning, giving up no hits or walks with one strikeout.

Corbin Driskell went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Riley Friend added two hits in four plate appearances with an RBI and three runs scored.

Also getting hits for the Tigers was: Leyton Coffman (1-for-4, R,2B, BB, 2RBI), JB Thompson (1-for-4), Christian Files (1-for-4), Oliver Morris (1-for-3, R, RBI), and Haldyn Williams (1-for-3, R, BB, 2RBI).
