Tigers Walk-Off GS secures DH Sweep

Marion, AL. – The Tigers earned a doubleheader sweep over the Tigers of Northeast Mississippi CC Tuesday afternoon. Marion will travel to Wadley, Alabama this weekend for a three-game stint. This Friday, Marion will face John A. Logan College with Saturday's slate includes San Jacinto-North and host Southern Union.

Game 1 – MMI 14 NEMSCC 4

Jon Hyde drove in four runs on two hits to lead Marion past Northeast Mississippi CC in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader. Hyde blasted a homerun to left field in the third inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the second inning, scoring one.

Northeast Mississippi CC scored first in the second inning, but the Tigers rallied for three runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Bodie Giddiens and Hayden Markfort each singled.  With two outs Patrick Eichelberger tripled, scoring both runs.  Hyde singled through the 5/6 hole to score Eichelberger.

MMI added six more runs in the bottom of the third inning on three hits. Christian Files walked and Corbin Driskell was hit by a pitch. Bodie Giddiens singled to right field, scoring two runs; he advanced to second base on the throw to the cutoff. Hayden Markfort singled past the third baseman. Oliver Morris walked to load the bases for Sutton Hyde. Hyde hit a sac fly to left field, scoring Giddens. Jon Hyde blasted his homerun to open the lead to 9-2.

Northeast added two runs in the fourth inning, but Marion matched their run production iin the bottom half of the inning. Christian Files walked and Giddiens was hit by a pitch with one out. Morris walked and Sutton Hyde was hit by a pitch to bring in a run. After a new pitcher was inserted for NEMSCC Eichelberger walked; Tigers up 11-4.

In the fifth inning Riley Friend and Files both earned walks. Luke Bowen singled and scored Friend. Markfort and Morris walked; another run scored. A pass ball in the Tigers' next at-bat allowed Bowen to score the final run.

Drew Vaughn earned the win for MMI.  The LHP allowed no hits and no runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking one. Alex Holland started for Marion and gave up three hits and four runs over three and one-third innings, striking out five and walking two.

Game 2 – MMI 7 NEMSCC 5

Marion took an early lead in the second game in their first at-bat off an infield error. Bodie Giddiens singled and Oliver Morris was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Sutton Hyde was hit by a pitch and Patrick Eichelberger reached on an error, scoring the game's first run.

Northeast Mississippi tied the game, 1-1, in the top of the second inning. Marion took the lead back in the fourth inning. Hayden Markfort led off with a walk. Morris singled to centerfield and S. Hyde laid down a sac bunt to move the runners. Eichelberger singled to score both runners.

Neither team scored until the seventh inning when the visitors from NEMSCC plated four runs to take a 5-3 lead. Christian Files walked and Markfort was hit by a pitch with one out in Marion's final at-bat. After Morris popped out, S. Hyde was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Luke Bowen was inserted into the lineup as a pinch hitter, and blasted the grand slam to right field, securing the doubleheader sweep for MMI.

Cooper Hardin earned the win for Marion. He gave up one hit and one run (none earned) over one inning. Jerry McDowell took the mound to start game two and allowed three hits and one run over five innings. He struck out one and walked two batters. Billy Bush also saw action in relief for MMI.
