Marion, AL—The Marion Military Institute Lady Tigers spotted the Stillman College Tigers a 3-point lead by forfeiting three matches (No. 5 singles, No. 6 singles, and No. 3 doubles) on Thursday afternoon, but then bounced back to claim three of the five matches played.
At No. 1 doubles, MMI's Carleen Conway and Maria Cespedes fought their way back from the brink of defeat and found a way to win an exhilarating match, 9-7, against the formidable Stillman College doubles duo of Veronika Kalugina and Angela Corredor. Things did not go so well for MMI's No. 2 doubles team of Kyla Hughley and Shikiria Franklin, as they squared off against the Stillman pair of Nair Tolomeo and Carolina Barabas and lost, 8-0.
Conway clubbed Kalugina, 8-0, at No. 1 singles, and Cespedes toppled Tolomeo, 8-2, at No. 2 singles. Stillman College returned the favor with easy 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles..
The MMI Lady Tigers will visit the Stillman College Lady Tigers in Tuscaloosa on Sunday, September 21. The match has a 2:00 p.m. start time.
